A Useful Service for Mobile Bloggers and News Enthusiasts

26 January 2007

Even when you are on the go, it is easy to read news published on the Internet. You just have to know the Web pages that are readily accessible on a phone. It is also possible to post new entries to a blog if you have installed an application on your phone that can connect to the blog system. Mdog.com offers a free service that lets you access a number of news sources and update your blog directly from your phone without having to install any new software.

There are two principal features in mdog that makes Mdog.com worthwhile: access to news using a browser application on the phone and the possibility to update a blog from the phone browser. The nice thing is that you don't have to install anything on your phone. That's why Mdog is also compatible with a large number of mobile devices. The featured search in Mdog, however, didn't convince us with its results.

First, you have to sign up for mdog.com service on your computer. When you have registered to the service, you can select news sources from major publications and blogs that will be visible on your phone. While you are still on your computer, specify the address for your own blog as well. Mdog lets you post on blogspot.com, typepad.com, livejournal.com, and xanga.com blog systems directly from the phone.

Read news on the phone

When everything is set up, you are ready to access news on your phone. Point your phone's Web browser to mdog.com. Login to the service and click My Web tab on the screen. You will see the list of publications that you selected when you were on the computer. Now, you can simply navigate to the story you want to read.

Post new entries on your blog from your phone

If you are viewing the mdog home screen on your phone, you can see My Blogs tab next to My Web tab. Click My Blogs. You will see a form where you can type a new entry to your blog. We updated a Blogger.com blog from our phone. It was a pretty pleasant experience, because we were holding a smartphone with qwerty keypad and big screen (the screen shots have been captured with the device) in our hands.

Mdog doesn't provide mobile access to all interesting news sources that can be found on the Internet. Here you can find out other Web sites for mobile devices: avecmobile.com/links.

Thanks so much for including us in your discussion!! I wanted to offer one correction to the article above, if I may: you DON'T HAVE to sign up to use mdog!! All web and blogs are accessible by choosing either of those categories at the home page. However, if you wanted to see a personalized list of publications and blogs, then you can create your profile via your PC and then access this personal profile when you click Sign In. Just wanted to give you this feedback, since we want people to know that there aren't any catches to using mdog! We are very glad to have you and your readers on board! Best, Carol Sautter @ MDOG.COM
