Motorola E1000

Motorola E1000 is a nice, compact phone with advanced functionality and high-speed 3G network connectivity. You can set up a video call with a friend who has a compatible phone, and you'll see his or her live picture and your friend will see live video feed from you.

Key functionality: Motorola E1000 moves large images, videos and other information over a fast, new generation WCDMA / UMTS 3G network. It comes with a high resolution 320x240 screen that can display 262000 colors. The high-quality screen is needed for the two digital cameras fitted in the phone: a 1.2 megapixel camera on the back is intended for taking photos and the VGA 640x480 resolution camera on the front is used for streaming live video during video calls. The low resolution of the camera used during video calls is nothing to worry about, because the live video stream is heavily compressed for performance reasons anyhow.

The built-in Bluetooth wireless connectivity allows you to use a wireless headset, or hook up the phone to your computer for data synchronization. Although a somewhat exotic choice, Transflash memory card provides the means to store images and music and swap them with your computer. The phone includes an MP3 player and RealPlayer compatible software for listening to the MP3 songs you have on your computer and for watching videos. Early experiences with the phone indicate that its battery life tends to be short, especially, if the 3G network connectivity is extensively used.

Who likes this product: Style-conscious people who want to have a compact 3G phone with high-speed network access.

Style: Motorola E1000 is an elegant phone. It is well balanced: not one of the smallest, but not one of the largest phones available. The keypad itself is fine, but there are two things that take some time to get used to: the navigation joystick is almost in the middle of the keypad and additional shortcut keys have been located along the both sides of the screen.

Value for money: This model is good value for an advanced 3G phone. The Transflash memory card instead of the more popular SD or MMC is a questionable choice, but an adapter is available. Try to make sure you get the latest version of the phone for minimizing the possibility for battery problems.
