Water resistant pouch for mobile phones: Review
One of the most common accidents that can destroy a mobile phone (or any electronics) is dropping the device into water. Water resistant mobile phones designed for sports activities are available, but few people find them attractive. It is, however, possible to totally protect a mobile phone from water. You simply slip the phone into a pouch designed for the purpose. We tried out a waterproof pouch from BudgetGadgets.
The product costs only a few dollars, so we were keen to find out how it compares with more expensive protective cases, like the Aquapac which is proven to be waterproof.
The unbranded waterproof pouch is made of heavy-duty transparent plastics. Two plastic straps must be carefully closed and folded for the bag to close completely. Then, you can hang the pouch from the lanyard to your bag or coat. Check out the video where you can see how the pouch is closed and what happens when it is dropped into water:
The low-cost pouch proved to be water resistant, but not waterproof. When we submerged the pouch into water and quickly picked it up, we could find drops of water inside the bag. When we held the pouch in the water for longer period, the test material inside the pouch was wet.
Our conclusion was that the water resistant pouch works fine when you want to protect your electronics from rain or splash water, but you shouldn't trust the pouch if there is any risk of dropping it into water.
What we liked about the Water Resistant Pouch for mobile phones

- The pouch floats, making it easier and faster to find the phone in case you drop it.

What we didn't like
- The pouch is not waterproof.
- If you drop the pouch into water you have to quickly pick up the pouch and instantly dry the electronics you have in the pouch.
Value for the money: 2.5 out of 5
You shouldn't expect too much from a mobile phone accessory that is roughly worth a jug of beer. The Waterproof Pouch is a low-cost product that protects your phone or other electronics from rain or splash of water, but that's it. The pouch doesn't provide total protection from water for your electronics. You still have to be careful when you carry your phone near waterm - even when it is in this pouch.
